If you want to be wise in this new year, the best place to start is prayer (see James 1:5). After you pray, start reading the Book of Proverbs. Most of its content comes from a man who famously asked God for wisdom. When God granted that Israelite king’s request, that man left much of his divinely-given wisdom for us to benefit from. We’d be fools not to take advantage of it.
This list of proverbs is no substitute for you reading the entire book of Proverbs yourself, but these are some great proverbs to study, memorize, and meditate upon. They are all provided in the classic King James Version.
- “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Proverbs 1:7)
