An apple tree produces apples. A peach tree produces peaches. A coconut tree produces coconuts. And a money tree produces… Yeah, we wish, right? Instead, I remember my parents telling me “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” Anyone else have parents who told them that?
The point is that fruit trees produce the fruit they are intended to bear.
Paul uses this same analogy — which he basically stole from Jesus (by permission of the Holy Spirit 🙂 ) – when talking about Christians. We as followers of Jesus should bear fruit.
What kind of fruit?
Paul gives us the answer…
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
When people look at an apple tree, they should see apples (at least in due season). What about when people look at you? Do they see evidence of God working in your life? Do they see the fruit of the Holy Spirit?
