Why I Write (And Who I Write For)

Every blog has a purpose. Every writer has an aim. If you’ve ever wondered why I write — or who I write for — that’s what we’re going to unpack.

At the end of the day, everything I write as a pastor — whether a sermon, a blog post, or even a quick devotional thought — has the following three-fold purpose: to glorify God, to share the good news of Jesus Christ, and to edify the body of Christ.

That calling begins first and foremost with the congregation I am blessed to serve: Olney Baptist Church. Much of what you see on this blog exists to encourage, teach, and shepherd our members, attendees, and friends. Though, of course, those outside of the OBC community are welcome to read as well.

These posts are an extension of my ministry — another way to help you grow in your walk with Christ and apply God’s Word to your everyday life.

In saying that, I should also make clear that not all the content on this blog represents the official views or positions of Olney Baptist Church. While much of what I write flows out of my pastoral ministry, this site is also a personal platform where I reflect, teach, and explore issues more broadly. Responsibility for the content here rests with me.

Over the years, I’ve also sensed God nudging me to write for a wider audience. This is why I write on Medium and sometimes on social media. And it’s why I’ve self-published some mini-books on Amazon.

But I’m feeling led to expand this blog as well.

As I’ve read Proverbs, studied biblical leadership, and reflected on the needs of our world, I’ve come to believe that many Christian leaders — in churches, workplaces, and businesses — are hungry for biblically grounded wisdom for leadership.

Leadership is influence, and Christians are called to exercise that influence with integrity, humility, and courage. I want to offer encouragement and practical insight to those who bear the weight of leading others. Much of this leadership wisdom flows from my ongoing study of Proverbs, the Bible’s book of wisdom. So, expect to see more content on leadership – for pastors, church leaders, and Christians in business and the workplace.

Finally, we are living in a time of rapid change. Few developments are as far-reaching as the rise of artificial intelligence (AI). Technology is moving faster than most of us can keep up with, and Christians are not immune to its influence. I believe part of my calling now is to help believers think clearly and biblically about AI — not only so we can discern its impact on our faith and culture, but also so pastors, churches, and individual Christians can wisely leverage these new tools for ministry and daily life.

While this blog is mainly a labor of love, from time to time, I may include affiliate links to books or resources I genuinely recommend, or I may offer my own resources for a modest cost. This helps support the costs of keeping the site running — and, to be candid, it helps support my family. 🙂

So, who do I write for?

  • I write for the members, guests, and friends of Olney Baptist Church.
  • I write for pastors, church leaders, and Christian leaders who want to grow in wisdom.
  • I write for Christians trying to navigate a rapidly changing world — especially in the age of AI.

Wherever you find yourself, my hope is that these words point you to Christ, anchor you in the truth of Scripture, and encourage you to live with wisdom in a world that desperately needs it.
