Seek Peace

Conflict is easy. It’s natural. Peace is difficult. And yet that’s what the Bible tells us to seek.

Our world is filled with conflict—big and small. You see it in politics, on social media, in families, at work, and yes, even in churches. But Scripture gives us a clear directive: seek peace and pursue it.

“Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.”
—Psalm 34:14 (KJV)

This command isn’t just for international diplomats or high-profile pastors. It’s for all of us. Every Christian is called to be a peacemaker.

We often think peace is something that just happens—that it shows up when everyone else starts behaving better. But biblical peace takes work. It must be sought and pursued.

That means choosing not to escalate an argument with your spouse. It means refusing to gossip about your coworker. It means listening more than you speak during a church disagreement. It means, sometimes, swallowing your pride and saying, “I’m sorry” — even when the other person doesn’t.

Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9, KJV). Not just peace loverspeacemakers. That’s an action word. And it’s not always easy. But it’s worth it.

Now, pursuing peace doesn’t mean you become a doormat. It doesn’t mean you ignore sin or abandon truth. Nor is it (necessarily) a rejection of the principle of self-defense (although I think sometimes we might be too quick to pull out the ‘self-defense’ card).

But it does mean checking your heart, watching your tone, and choosing grace over retaliation.

So here’s a question for today: Are you making peace or making drama?
At home.
At work.
At church.
On social media.
In your heart.

Let’s be intentional about bringing peace into the relationships God has placed in our lives. Not passively waiting for things to get better—but actively pursuing peace.

Seek peace. And pursue it.
