Thank God for Water

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve written on this blog. Not only has life been busy, but I also took time for a two-week vacation in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. The picture is one I took of the Atlantic Ocean at dusk while I stood on the beach.

I love the ocean. I love water.

When I was growing up, we didn’t do beach vacations, but when I married my wife — that changed. Now, I’m hooked.

Of course, I need to qualify that.

I’m not a sunbather. The whole routine — slathering on sunscreen, getting coated in sand, hauling chairs and coolers back and forth, and then hunting for a bathroom — just isn’t my idea of relaxation. Besides, I can put on SunBlock 54,000 and I will still get burned. My skin is either pale or red. There is no tan. I mean, I got burned on this vacation – while sitting under an umbrella!

Still…

I love the beach.

I love looking at sunrises and sunsets on the beach. I love walking on the beach at dusk. I love just staring out at the ocean. It’s soothing. It’s therapeutic.

And I’ve learned to really appreciate the simple gift of…water.

We need water. We need water to drink. We need water to bathe. We need water for nature and crops. And I would submit we need water for our mental and emotional health.

There is a reason David writes about the Lord, as our Shepherd, leading us beside “still waters.”

Take a moment to thank God for the simple things in life. They’re often some of His greatest blessings — and we don’t always realize it.
