You Don’t Have to Fix Everything Today

Ever feel like you’re trying to hold everything together—your job, your family, your finances, your emotions—and somehow still falling short? Maybe you’re staring at a long to-do list, an overflowing inbox, or a mountain of unspoken expectations. And it feels like if you stop for even a second, everything might unravel.

And do you feel like the problems or challenges are accumulating so quickly and so high that you’re desperate for solutions? Immediate solutions?

If that’s you, take a breath. Now another.

Here’s a freeing truth from Jesus Himself: You don’t have to fix everything today.

This is a post that I’m writing for myself as much as I am for you, because this is something I struggle with. I’m sure I’m not alone. And when I struggle with this, I need to reflect on the following words from Jesus in Matthew 6.

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (Matthew 6:34, KJV)

The context of this quote is of course the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus is talking to a crowd filled with real-life worries: food, clothing, health, security. And He doesn’t shame them. He simply invites them into a new mindset: To seek God’s kingdom first and trust God with our needs.

Notice Jesus doesn’t promise life will be easy. He acknowledges that each day has its share of trouble. But He’s also gently reminding us to live in today’s grace. Not tomorrow’s fear.

You see, God gives grace for today. Not next week. Not five years from now. Not for the conversation you’re dreading or the bills you haven’t opened yet. He gives you what you need for this moment—this breath, this step.

So be faithful with what’s in front of you. Do what you can today, and entrust the rest to Him. You’re not God. You don’t have to be.

We would have much less stress and anxiety in our lives if we were to take life one step at a time, praying to God and trusting Him with each step we take.

Lay down the burden of trying to fix everything all at once.

Pick up His peace instead.
