Almost twenty years ago, I took my two kids to a model train show near our house. My son was about 2 and my daughter was almost 6. Something happened (it’s been a long time) that caused me to focus for a minute on Jonathan. And during that time, Jennifer wandered away and got lost in the crowd. When I realized she was lost, I obviously started looking urgently for her, and then found her — in tears.
She was only out of my sight for maybe 2 or 3 minutes, but in the midst of that big crowd, in an unfamiliar place, with all those strangers… she wanted the security of being with Dad.
We can be like that too.
When life gets noisy and chaotic, we want the presence of our Heavenly Father. Not just His presence. We want His full attention. We don’t want to be a statistic or a face in a sea of faces. We want our Heavenly Father to see us, understand us, care about us, and be accessible to us.
I’ve got great news!
Your Heavenly Father loves you, sees you, understands you, cares about you, and is always there for you.
If you ever doubt that, here are seven (7) Bible verses to read, study, and meditate on:
- “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” – Proverbs 15:3
- “The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth.” – Psalm 33:13-14
- “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.” – Hebrews 4:13
- “Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.” – Jeremiah 23:24
- “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.” – 2 Chronicles 16:9
- “For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.” – Job 34:21
- “O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.” – Psalm 139:1-3
These verses can be both reassuring and convicting. God sees you. He sees everything about you — including everything you think and everything you do. Sometimes, that’s more convicting than encouraging. And that’s okay. God isn’t an abstract force or emotionless statue. He is the One True God and Creator of this universe.
As a kid, I drew comfort from the presence of my parents –because they were real human beings.
A god of our own making is not comforting. Only the One True God is comforting. And remember…
You can’t appreciate the love of God without understanding the nature of God. And you can’t have the comfort of God without acknowledging the authority of God.
Never doubt that God loves you, that He sees you, and that He cares for you.
You don’t have to worry about God’s attention. What you need to concern yourself with is your attention to Him.
