The Happiness Proverbs: 6 Bible Verses From Proverbs That Talk About Being Happy

Do you want to be happy?

Aristotle said: “Happiness is the meaning and purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.” Now, I wouldn’t fully agree with that. In fact, I think if you make happiness that kind of an idol, you’ll only push it away. But I certainly agree that every person in his or her right mind prefers happiness over unhappiness.

Here are six (6) Bible proverbs (KJV) for you to read, study, memorize, and meditate upon:

  • Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. (Proverbs 3:13)
  • She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. (Proverbs 3:18)
  • He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he. (Proverbs 14:21)
  • He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he. (Proverbs 16:20)
  • Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief. (Proverbs 28:14)
  • Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. (Proverbs 29:18)

The second proverb listed (Proverbs 3:18) is tied in with the first one (Proverbs 3:13). It’s in the same passage–the “she” in Proverbs 3:18 being wisdom personified. Of course, when you get right down to it, they all overlap.

A few observations based on these proverbs:

  • Wisdom is available to those who intentionally look and listen for it.
  • Wisdom is something we must hold onto because (if we’re not careful) it can slip away.
  • Resentment and hate push wisdom away, but…
  • Compassion and generosity put you in sync with wisdom.
  • Revering, trusting, and following God are inextricably intertwined with wisdom.

The more you study and meditate on the above proverbs, the more insights will glean from them.

If you want to be happy, these proverbs are a great place to start.
